Arugam Bay Itineraries: 3, 5 and 7 Days Done Well

Day one: settle on the strip, walk the bay, sunrise-watch or surf Main Point the next morning. Day two: surf lesson or beach morning at Whiskey Point, Pottuvil Lagoon boat at dusk. Day three: Peanut Farm beach day, climbing Elephant Rock for sunset on the way home.

Keep the first three days, then: day four, morning jeep safari into Kumana National Park via the Okanda gate, afternoon rest. Day five, ride south at leisure through Panama, climb Kudumbigala for the coastal panorama, and take the empty Panama beach before a final strip dinner.

A week lets the trip breathe: daily surf mornings appropriate to your level, one full rest day with nothing but the beach, a second lagoon run or a dawn Kumana safari for the birds, Muhudu Maha Viharaya and Pottuvil's market for the culture and commerce, and a repeat of whatever earned it. Surfers on a progression plan should anchor the week to one school.

Book Kumana and lagoon trips a day ahead through your stay. Keep the middle of the day slow: this coast is hot, and the mornings and evenings hold all the magic. If a big-swell day arrives at Main Point, drop the plan and watch: it is the best show in town.
